The Bargate Quarter regeneration brings Southampton’s history to life with a series of thoughtful projects.
These include the Bargate Information Panel, offering insight into the site’s past with a historical map and accessible text; Glass Screens, highlighting the missing Old Town Walls with tactile stone textures; and the Balustrade, which tells the story of medieval trade routes.
Feature Paving Bands and Roundels honour the medieval artisans, while the Polymond Garden Screen showcases more recent history, including WWII imagery and petitions to save the Bargate. The Artwork Structure – ‘Back of the Walls’ marks the missing eastern wall with a dynamic, ever-changing design.
